fresh citrus margarita

Let’s start this new year off with a margarita!!!

It’s flu season and what better way to ward off sickness than with a huge dose of vitamin C. And tequila!! I mean does it get any better? Actually it does in the form of going to Key West Florida and basking in sunlight and 80 degrees and drinking copious amounts of alcohol and fresh fruits which is what my girl Trixie will be doing for the next 7 days. Bitch. Just kidding, she deserves this vacation. I’m still insanely jealous. I’ll just have to drink copious amounts of this margarita instead.
Check out the cool bar mats this drink is sitting on. They are Martha Stewart bar mats that Trixie bought me for my birthday.

These cool bar mats actually tie the story together because the inspiration for this cocktail came from my girl Martha. She made a drink for Snoop and their guests on one of the episodes of Martha and Snoops pot luck dinner party. It was called Mary’s knees. Yes, bizarre name. But it looked really good with fresh lemon, lime, and orange juice. Plus orange liquer and vodka. If you’ve read my blog before, you know that I love fresh orange juice in any cocktail. It just makes the drink taste so different and so much better. Plus I love me some lime juice especially in a margarita. So instead of trying Mary’s knees, I made it into a margarita by using tequila instead.

Fresh citrus margarita
2 oz tequila
1 oz orange liquer
2 oranges, juiced
1 lime, juiced
1/2 lemon juiced
salt for rim of glass
Place all ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake well. Pour into salt rimmed glass.

A fresh citrus margarita a day will keep the doctor away!! Okay, maybe not but I might try it anyway.
