rum sparkling spiced pumpkin cider cocktail

IMG_1134

This cocktail is like Fall in a glass. Seriously the spices and the pumpkin and the spiced rum all combine for this amazing aroma. I wanted to make this drink a hot spiced cider, which you could totally do with apple cider, but I was too stupid to read the label closely enough. All I could see was pumpkin cider in this really cool bottle that I found at my favorite grocery store in all the land-Aldi. Imagine my surprise when I opened the bottle and it popped really loudly and it was all sparkly and fizzy when I poured it and I’m all like “what the what?” Oh yeah, the label says sparkling. Duh! So I just made the drink without heating it and it was still very delicious. And bubbly.

I’m not really celebrating Halloween this year so I didn’t make us any cool Halloween cocktails. Sorry. My bad. But this cocktail should make up for it because we can celebrate fall til Thanksgiving right? It’s not one of those “one night” kind of cocktails. Slutty cocktails that they are…

Rum sparkling spiced pumpkin cider cocktail
1 oz spiced rum
1 oz dark rum
sparkling pumpkin cider
Pour rum(s) in a glass and top with pumpkin cider. I rimmed the glass with caramel then cinnamon sugar. It makes the drink taste even more like all the tastes and smells of Fall.

It's like Fall in a glass!

what up wednesdays

Just a few things I’ve been up to lately…..

  • I should actually title this wtf do I do with my life Wednesdays because it ain’t a whole helluva lot lately.  Seriously.  I’m so boring I can’t stand myself.  The weather is cooler, rainy, and dreary.  So a trip to the pumpkin patch my boyfriend’s sister tried planning never happened.  I’m not going to any Halloween parties.  My attempt at decorating for Fall/ Halloween was to find and put out my pumpkin candle.  And I just realized I forgot to hang my fall wreath.  I suck.  Oh, and the laziness continues because I’m not baking pies for the holidays this year.  I have people threatening me.  Like wanting to start a hit list on me (jokingly of course).  But seriously.  It’s not me being lazy either, it’s because I don’t have the space to do it this year since I moved in with my boyfriend.  Plus there’s the cats.  I refuse to bake and sell pies with the possibility of cat hair being in the pies. Gross.  And while I appreciate everyone who offers me their kitchen (because many have) people just do not realize the month long process it takes for me to make and bake 100+ pies.  And I would be spending 14 hours for 2 days plus another 6 hours on a 3rd day just baking in their kitchen.  And the funny thing is, almost everyone who offers has pets.  But nevertheless I am very flattered that everyone loves my pies and is devastated that i’m not making any this year.  I am so very sorry!
  • Let’s talk TV.  The Walking Dead.  Is Glenn really dead?  My theory is yes because it was rumored before it happened AND they never exactly showed Lori dying and she was a major/original character too.  We caught up on 2 of 3 episodes of Empire and my boyfriend liked it a little better but i’m still NAH.  Every single episode 5 times in each episode they just go back and forth between he stole this person ya well this person works for me now and this kid is gonna be with my label and I’m gonna take you down and no, i’m gonna take you down and blah blah blah i’m over it.  So instead of scripted tv, I fall back on my mind numbing brain cells dying reality tv crap.  Like 90 day fiancée and Arranged and Married at 1st sight the 1st year, Ladies of London, RHOC….What I REALLY want is Showtime.  I want to binge watch and get all caught up in Ray Donovan, The Affair, Masters of Sex, maybe even Homeland.  Or better yet, don’t get Showtime and stop watching so much damn tv and get a fucking life.
  • This is one of those bitchy posts today.  I’m so sorry.  Sometimes I can’t help myself.

Cadillac Margarita

cadillac margarita

Because every Monday deserves a margarita.  And not just any old margarita, but a Cadillac margarita.  We deserve the very best, right?  I also just bought these really cool margarita glasses so I wanted to showcase them with a fancier drink.  I bought the glasses at Pier One.  They are sturdy, heavy duty and a pretty blue and green color.  And they were on clearance!  I just love Pier One.  I wish I could decorate my whole house with their stuff.  Especially for every holiday.  Unfortunately, I cannot afford to do that so when I find really awesome things on clearance there, I get annoyingly overly excited.  And then annoy share it with you.

cadillac margarita

So I bet you’re wondering why it’s called a “Cadillac” margarita. It’s because of the top shelf liquor. Use a good quality tequila and grand marnier instead of triple sec. Both are orange flavored but grand marnier is a top shelf orange cognac instead of just an orange liquer. So go all out and get your fancypants on and celebrate.

Cadillac Margarita
2 oz top shelf tequila
1 oz Grand Marnier
1 1/2 oz fresh lime juice or Rose’s lime juice
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Pour into a margarita glass. Salted rim optional. Garnish with a lime wedge to make it look pretty. Grab your chips and salsa and enjoy!

spiked hot berry tea

IMG_1121

Sometimes when you’re feeling under the weather you just need some hot tea.   And when you find a cool linen napkin with writing on it that matches your freakin awesome little pink tea set well that will just make anyone feel better.  Oh, don’t forget to add a warm fireplace.  Maybe even a fuzzy blanket too?

The writing on the cup is in French so I added some crème de cassis to my berry tea.  Crème de Cassis is a black currant cordial from France.  My tea is called berries and blossoms but any berry tea will do.  Especially a blackberry tea.

You don’t have to drink this out of an awesome pink French mug but you would be so much cooler if you did. You may even feel better sooner!

what up wednesdays

just a few things I’ve been up to lately…

  • spending time with family and friends celebrating my birthday.  We had a “happy hour” party at my parents house and my bestest joined us and it was great fun.
  • Have I ever mentioned that I am totally, completely, 100% obsessed with all things Martha Stewart.  Like insanely and maybe even unhealthily infatuated with her.  I was devastated and may have even cried when she stopped selling her products at kmart.  That was my happy place.  I would just spend hours perusing the aisles of Martha stuff.  I wouldn’t buy any other brand of kitchen/bedding/storage/Christmas etc..unless it was Martha.  Ok, I’m still sort of crazy  loyal like that but it’s a little expensive harder with her stuff at macy’s.  But, I did treat myself for my birthday and picked up these 2 things.  IMG_1107IMG_1108I have been looking for a big soft warm faux fur blanket and low and behold my girl Martha has them out for xmas.  And it was on sale AND I had a coupon.  Then I saw this pillow and umm hello? we are now  crazy cat people and it’s Martha so of course I had to buy it.  On sale with a coupon too.  My boyfriend went to Macy’s twice for part of my present because after the first time he was all like “you already have everything.”  But then after the second trip he bought me some really cool glasses and decanter which I can’t wait to use on this blog.
  • TV talk!  The Walking Dead did not disappoint.  Like totally rocked! Carol is a such a badass.  Haven’t caught up on Empire yet.  I’m afraid I’m not going to like it anymore.
  • So I have been under the weather a bit lately.  I won’t bore you with the details but I was on medication and was getting better then after I was done with the meds it came back full force and then some.  My point of telling you this is because I haven’t been drinking lately (since just after my bday, of course) or trying out new drink recipes which just means I’ve been absent from my blog.  I know, I know, just another lame excuse.
  • Check out this shirt my sister found for me in New York City and gave to me for my birthday.  It is just so perfect!
